About AGES

Anything Goes Event Series is an umbrella organization which stemmed from the Fernie Gravel Grind (FGG), a weekend gravel cycling festival founded in 2019 by Carter Nieuwesteeg.

For Riders. By Riders.

AGES philosophy is that we’re doing this for riders, as riders. By having numerous years of experience in the bike industry, attending races and pursuing our passion for riding, the Anything Goes Event Series knows what people want in an event and what gets them excited to ride.

AGES Mission

  • Inspire everyone on all wheels through equality, fairness and community.
  • Bring excitement to biking through inclusive and welcoming events to all.
  • Provide useful and meaningful resources to all cyclists.
  • Promote healthier and more open cycling communities by breaking down norms and stereotypes.

Meet the Team

AGES consists of the same team and ultimately the same passions that built the FGG from the ground up including FGG & AGES founder Carter Nieuwesteeg, and AGES co-founder David Bennison.

Carter Nieuwesteeg

Carter is a professional cyclist born and raised in Fernie who’s passion lies not only in racing but also in giving back to his community. Because his community has had his back throughout his racing career, Carter is now bringing the support back to his community by delivering events similar to the ones that stoked a fire in him since the beginning.

David Bennison

AGES co-founder, David Bennison, is a deeply rooted Fernie local with great experience in running local events with the Fernie Gravel Grind as well as Alpine Club of Canada. David takes pride in bringing new riders into the sport, and sharing the stoke with all.

Hannah Simms

After several years working in marketing at a Ski Resort & organizing Downhill MTB events in Ontario, Hannah recently moved to the West Coast and has joined the AGES team as Marketing Director. Hannah grew up in mountain biking and continues to race mtb and gravel with the Ellevate Elite Women’s Off-Road Team, while helping to get more women into the sport.

Katie de Bruycker

Like Goose to Maverick, Katie to AGES is the Rider Experience Lead that keeps the racers on track throughout the weekend experiences. When not running the best possible Stoke Stations, Katie is an elementary school teacher in Elkford who’s committed to getting all kids on bikes. Each year Katie brings to life the Elkford Fondo for her students; a challenge to see how many laps her students can do around the track. In 2022 the Fondo got 24 kids on bikes for a grand total of 628 kilometres covered. Katie’s passion for growing youth cycling in our community truly embodies the spirit of AGES, that and her outrageous Stoke Station costumes and ability to not take things too seriously.
